Evaluation Question 2
For our ancillary texts, we had to incorporate the colours we used in our music video which we discussed for our synergy. my group and I decided to use colours such as white, black and gold for the album cover and music video. We`ve decided to use white/grey and gold because they are the colours that represent forgiveness which is the title to our video.

Synergy between products |
Personally, i think that my final video links at least a bit with my final ancillary and advertisement. in my honest opinion i don't think that the audience can straight away link my final music videos but there are subtle links. for example the colours which are white/grey and gold are quite obvious, females would notice the gold around the featuring artist Dami-Lola's neck and the males would notice the colour of the white shirt under the suit of the artist T-C and also the jumper he wears.
I feel like i have effectively created visual links between my video and ancillary products, through the use of colour scheme, facial expression, artist used and most importantly following the conventions of hip-hop media products throughout my work.
Below are some of the audience feedback which I received in relation to how effective the combination of my video and ancillary products were. From the feedback, I can confirm that I had established a clear link between my products through the use of costume and colours.
I also found out that the products I created would appeal to my target audience and because of the connotation of forgiveness and changing paths which was demonstrated through the change of clothing and the inside panels.

Evaluation - Question 1 (draft)
Looking back on the forms and conventions of music videos and using the research I did on the theories of Goodwin, Vernallis and Mulvey, I'd say that we have followed and in other ways challenged the conventions in the media product my group and I produced. Following the words of Andrew Goodwin, I feel that our media product which was our music video, was built through the song and does not follow traditional narrative structure. That being normality, problem and the resolution. We have also followed the matter or the singer looking directly at the camera to involve our viewers into the performance and also relate to artist(s).
Goodwin also mentioned how music videos may go beyond the original meaning. Sometimes the video provides visual pleasure promoting the music and sometimes the videos may be promoting other commodities such as film. So with that being said, there are three types of relations between songs and videos. These are Illustration, Amplification and Disjuncture. My group followed the relation of Disjuncture because the video has very little connection with the lyrics.
Carol Vernallis focuses on the editing and the camerawork closely in music videos. She noticed that the edits come frequently than in films and they seem to have a rhythmic basis connected to the song. These edits may be obvious to draw the attention to the artist(s) such as the special effects that have been added, or the jump cuts. This could also consist of base tracks being frequently used to give a structure and/or the camera moving in time with the music. I feel that my media product has followed these points because there were frequent base tracks that came frequently and also have repeated shots to draw attention to the artist. For special effects we had slow motions on the movement of the artist(s) during the performance and fast-paced editing.
Here are some examples of videos that influenced the media product that was produced:
In this video there are varieties of special effects to show the emotions in which the artist is feeling. Also in relation to the the song and its video, this is disjuncture - linking to our music video. when it comes to the camerawork, from this video, it allows to see the artist in different ways and helps understand the storyline.
Here is an example from our music video with these edits and cameraworks mentioned:
Another music video that helped influence our music video was the original video for 'Forgiveness'.
In this video we mostly focus on the camera angles. There are shots where they've been taken from behind or the side view of the artist walking into a particular location. This shows body language and makes us think about how they might be feeling or thinking about when walking into the location.
Here is the example from our music video:
Ancillary products:
Digipak
Here is a digipak from an artist that i have analysed to show the conventions. This helps to know where the features should be positioned.
I feel that I have followed the conventions of a digipak because I have put the features in the correct places they should be in. The name of the artist has been put in where I thought had to much space to this was easier for the audience to read it and know who the artist is straight away. The picture I have chosen fits the majority of the front to show that the focus is on them. I made sure to write add the Record label information and its copyright regulations. I also made sure that I had the artist name and album title on the spine along with the serial number and having this makes the digipak appear legit. The track list being in the centre makes it easy for people to read and gives a more sophisticated look.
As for the inside panels, much could not be done. I just had to make sure that I had a picture of the artist and the name and album title on the CD.
Advert
Here is an advert that I have analysed. The advert helps to promote the artist and their album because there is a link between the album cover and the picture on the advert. Having these logos show that this is where the album is available. The album name, artist name and the artist's picture all have to be obvious for the audience to see.
Here we have my advertisement following the conventions. i feel that i have all the features that an advert consists of. For example, the ratings from relevant magazines, when and where the album is available and how to connect with the artist.

Ancillary Production and Research: Evidence of New Artists
If Voki on top doesn't work he is what he said: Hello, My front cover digipak does not have a picture of the artist and with my research i have done, I saw that a lot of artist such as French Montana, Kendrick Lamar and and Ty Dollar sign have released their first album and not including their face on it. Although it is recommended but it is not needed. My presentation below will show my evidence.
Evaluation: Question One
Adverts help to promote an artist and their album. This is usually done by creating a link between the album cover and the picture on the advert. The image below shows an annotation of how conventional adverts are structured and the information they provide.
Researching adverts had provided me with a basis of what my advert should consist of. I ensured I had all the relevant information and that it was clearly visible to the audience. This was done by having a simple layout, fonts and colours used. I have followed the conventions of adverts by including, for example, the ratings from relevant magazines, when and where the album is available, how to connect with the artist and an image of T-C.
Digipaks benefit the artist and their music as its promotional aspect of the music industry which helps bring awareness to the artist thus selling the artist and encouraging consumers to buy and listen to their music.
Before creating my digipak, I analysed several digipaks and picked out the most common features - an example of one is shown below. From my analysis, the only part that challenged the convention is where the barcode is placed. Barcodes are usually placed at the bottom right on the back of the digipak. Doing this provided me with a basis of what information my digipak should include.
The image below is my digipak front & back panels. I have annotated the features which I have included in my digipak. When looking at the annotations, I can confirm that I have included all the relevant information which a digipak should contain; which therefore means that I have followed the conventions. For example, I have the track list, artist & album name, record label, copyright info etc.
Furthermore, all images and texts placed are in a conventional place and are a suitable size - nothing looks out of place or proportion.
It also follows the conventions of hip-hop digipaks as it has quite an urban feel to it through the use of costume (which also accounts for synergy, which I talk about in Question 2) and the use of dark colours.
Summary
I feel that I have followed the forms and conventions throughout the media products which I have created. I was able to do this as I completed thorough research into the forms and conventions of music videos, digipaks & adverts. Vernallis', Goodwin's and Mulvey's theory were kept in mind when I was creating my media products. I ensured that the music video cut to the beat and that I used a variety of camera angles.
The layout & information on digipaks/adverts were also kept in mind. By doing this, I was able to ensure I created my products correctly. For example, knowing where to place the copyright info, record labels etc.
Evaluation: Question Two
Below are some of the audience feedback which I received in relation to how effective the combination of my video and ancillary products were. From the feedback, I can confirm that I had established a clear link between my products through the use of costume and colours.
I also found out that the products I created would appeal to my target audience and because of the connotation of forgiveness and changing paths which was demonstrated through the change of clothing and the inside panels.
Evaluation: Question Three
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
I have created a website to show the different technologies used throughout research, planning, production and evaluation.
The image below will direct you to the website. Click through the 'Research,' 'Planning,' 'Production,' and 'Evaluation' to see the technologies which I used. Each image has a description which can be viewed at the bottom when the image is opened.
The video below is a screen cast of me showing how I added the shadow to my artist on the advert. The shadow made the image not look so flat and gave it some definition. This was a skill which I had learnt recently by looking at YouTube tutorials (part of research in production).
The video below talks through how I used Final Cut Pro to edit the chorus of the music video. The editing had impacted our music video well and, feedback has proven, it was liked by the majority of the audience.

Summary
Using a variety of technology came in handy as it meant that the work which I presented was not all text; therefore, my work was dynamic. It also allowed me to illustrate my ideas and provide examples to back up my work.

Ancillary - Short List of Pictures for Digipak
Here is a list of pictures we took to use for our Digipak. In this file there are 210 items.
I will be short listing pictures that will be the possible outcomes for the final pack.
Final Digipak and advert (DRAFT)
These are the final outcomes of my Digipak and advert. I have made some changes from the previous look because I felt that the covers and inner panels were too plain and thought I should be more creative with the layout to suit the main artist and follow the synergy our group discussed.
