Adverts help to promote an artist and their album. This is usually done by creating a link between the album cover and the picture on the advert. The image below shows an annotation of how conventional adverts are structured and the information they provide.
Researching adverts had provided me with a basis of what my advert should consist of. I ensured I had all the relevant information and that it was clearly visible to the audience. This was done by having a simple layout, fonts and colours used. I have followed the conventions of adverts by including, for example, the ratings from relevant magazines, when and where the album is available, how to connect with the artist and an image of T-C.
Digipaks benefit the artist and their music as its promotional aspect of the music industry which helps bring awareness to the artist thus selling the artist and encouraging consumers to buy and listen to their music.
Before creating my digipak, I analysed several digipaks and picked out the most common features - an example of one is shown below. From my analysis, the only part that challenged the convention is where the barcode is placed. Barcodes are usually placed at the bottom right on the back of the digipak. Doing this provided me with a basis of what information my digipak should include.
The image below is my digipak front & back panels. I have annotated the features which I have included in my digipak. When looking at the annotations, I can confirm that I have included all the relevant information which a digipak should contain; which therefore means that I have followed the conventions. For example, I have the track list, artist & album name, record label, copyright info etc.
Furthermore, all images and texts placed are in a conventional place and are a suitable size - nothing looks out of place or proportion.
It also follows the conventions of hip-hop digipaks as it has quite an urban feel to it through the use of costume (which also accounts for synergy, which I talk about in Question 2) and the use of dark colours.
Summary
I feel that I have followed the forms and conventions throughout the media products which I have created. I was able to do this as I completed thorough research into the forms and conventions of music videos, digipaks & adverts. Vernallis', Goodwin's and Mulvey's theory were kept in mind when I was creating my media products. I ensured that the music video cut to the beat and that I used a variety of camera angles.
The layout & information on digipaks/adverts were also kept in mind. By doing this, I was able to ensure I created my products correctly. For example, knowing where to place the copyright info, record labels etc.
