Research - Function of a music video
Music video: A videotaped performance of a recorded popular song, usually accompanied by dancing and visual images interpreting the lyrics.
The Music video has a number of purposes, but its main purpose is to Promote the single, the album the single is from and, of course, the artist. to do this, a music video has to:
1) sell the song in a way that the audience can remember the song from the video.
2) to provide the viewer with a better understanding of the songs so that they can engage with it both visually and audibly (this is achieved through a performance or a 'story' telling)
3) to entertain the viewer by highlighting the talents of the artists - dancing, singing, performance and physical appearance.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_miGclPFGs : this song, "One pound fish" promotes the song quite well, with the lyrics being "one pound fish" mostly throughout the song, and also hand gestures and props such as fish which act as Amplification.
