Research: Review of previous student's music video

Katy B - Jewels

  • Young females and teens going through a breakup are the main audience for this song/music video. This is illustrated in the artist's facial expression and the lyrics sung by her.
  • There is a slight representation of gender thropugh the use of bold red lipstick, which shows femininity and has a sexual appeal
  • The structure of this music video is a disjuncture as there is very little connection between the lyrics and what the audience sees.
  • There is a wide range of media language used in this video; for example, there are many close-ups, mid-shots, pans and handheld camera. As well as the camera shots, editing (such as fades, slow-motion, rewind etc) has been used effectively to fit and enhance the tempo of the music. The genre of this song is Dubstep, therefore it has an upbeat tempo.

The grade which I had predicted for this music video was 34, however it recieved a full mark of 40! This is because it had appropiate shooting material, variety of shots, close attention to mise-en-scene, good editing, and many more...
